#11 The Shinonome Family Library

Since everyone in my family loves reading, we have a room dedicated to books.

It’s not quite large enough to call it a library, but it’s a room where we store the books that the four family members have steadily collected over time, and the room also has sofas, so you can choose a book and enjoy reading right there.

I guided Suzumiya to that room.

Until just now, she had been in a state of either high tension or gloominess, I couldn’t tell which, but as soon as she entered the room, she returned to her usual straightforward self.

「A-Amazing! This room is so wonderful!」

『Is it? Well, I thought Suzumiya-san would react like that, that’s why I brought you here.』

「Yeah, yeah, it’s wonderful! Can I read some books?」

『Yeah, sure. You can use that sofa over there. And if you find any you like, feel free to borrow them, don’t hesitate to ask.』

Saying that, I left Suzumiya in the room and went to the kitchen to prepare some iced coffee.

When I returned to Suzumiya, she was sitting on the sofa and had started reading a hardcover literary book.

I quietly placed the iced coffee on the table next to the sofa so as not to disturb her reading, then chose a book from the bookshelf myself and sat down next to Suzumiya to start reading.

I was so engrossed in my reading that I didn’t know how much time had passed, and the room was beginning to get dim.

When I stood up and turned on the room’s light switch, brightening the room, Suzumiya finally stopped reading and looked up.

「I got completely absorbed in reading.」

『I see, I see. If you’re still in the middle of it, you can take it home with you today if you’d like.』

「Really!? Thank you so much! I’ll take you up on that offer and borrow it.」

『Sure thing. More importantly, it’s starting to get dark, so you should probably head back. I’ll walk you home.』

「Thank you for everything.」

『Well, today was to thank you for the cake the other day. Feel free to rely on me. Fufufu.』

When I said that, Suzumiya fidgeted and turned bright red.

Like I said, what’s the point of fidgeting around me like that!

Suzumiya has a boy she’s interested in, so show that coy behavior to him!

As I walked Suzumiya home, we talked about the book I lent her.

Of course, I couldn’t talk about the content as it would be a spoiler, but since that book belonged to my mother, I talked about that.

『That book, apparently my mother bought it about 20 years ago. She was still single then, and of course, I wasn’t born yet.』

「Hee~ But it doesn’t feel that old, does it?」

『Yeah, by the way, I’ve read it too, but before I read it, my mother told me “You’ll definitely cry!” and I read it with a rebellious feeling thinking “As if I’d cry so easily!”, but in the end, I cried easily. Tears were literally streaming from my eyes.』

「Ahh! Don’t say anymore! I’m still in the middle of it!」

『Ahh, right, sorry, sorry.』

「But today was quite a special day, wasn’t it?」

『Eh? Why?』

「Because it was my first date with Seiji-kun, and my first time being invited to Seiji-kun’s house!?」

『We just went to eat oshiruko though.』

「Geez, it’s still special!」

『Yes, yes, I’m glad you enjoyed it.』

Suzumiya is an interesting person after all.

We never run out of things to talk about and I don’t have to keep up appearances with her.

I naturally found myself thinking that if I could spend time like this with Suzumiya forever, it would be fun.
