Without any warning, our homeroom teacher announced during morning HR that we would be changing seats.
By the way, my current seat is the second row from the back by the window.
It was a pretty good spot.
And Suzumiya is in the middle at the front.
The unlucky seat right in front of the teacher’s desk.
Not that it matters, but Iizuka is near the front on the hallway side.
The method for deciding seats is that the homeroom teacher writes numbers corresponding to each seat on the blackboard, and we draw lots to determine our new seats based on the number we pick.
As someone who enjoys observing interesting people, I prefer seats in the back, but I’m not particularly picky.
If I had to say, I’d be happy if someone I’m friendly enough to chat with is seated nearby.
So, the result of the lottery.
I ended up in the very back on the hallway side.
Position-wise, you could say it’s a win.
And Suzumiya ended up to my left.
As Suzumiya moved her belongings and came over,
「Yosshaaaa!!!」
She’s loud all of a sudden.
She let out such a roar that she drew the attention of the entire class.
And then as she sat down,
「Seiji-kun, Seiji-kun♪」
『Ou, what’s up, Suzumiya-san?』
「Being next to each other after the seat change, it feels like destiny, doesn’t it♪?」
『Nah, not really.』
「Geez! You’re not being honest♪」
『No, I seriously don’t get what you’re talking about.』
Suzumiya was in such a good mood, perhaps because she was happy about being in the back, that she kept grinning throughout class, and in math, the teacher even said, “Oi, Suzumiya~ Why are you grinning~? Then, Suzumiya, answer this question~” and called on her.
I almost laughed out loud, but Suzumiya glared at me with puffed cheeks.
Sure, compared to being in front of the teacher’s desk, it’s heaven, and I can understand the feeling.
At first, I thought Suzumiya was a well-behaved honor student who smiled gently, but seeing her now, that was just a facade. Inside, she’s not reserved, quiet, or an honor student at all.
I mean, she’s completely different when she’s with me compared to others.
In front of me, she gets excited and starts making a fuss over anything, and every other word she brings up her lucky underwear.
Well, with a mother like that, there’s no way she’d be quiet.
However, there’s no doubt that Suzumiya is also a friend I can easily chat with, so in this seat change, I probably ended up in the winning group.
By the way, Iizuka got the unlucky seat right in front of the teacher’s desk.
You could say he’s the biggest loser this time. Serves him right.
『By the way, Suzumiya-san?』
「Yes, what is it! Seiji-kun♪」
『Why are you grinning so happily? You’ve been like that since the seat change today, right? It’s starting to look a bit creepy.』
「T-That’s… of course it’s because I became Seiji-kun’s neighbor!」
『Eh? Why?』
「Why? Because Seiji-kun’s seat is the rightmost row on the hallway side.」
『Hou?』
「Which means, the only possible neighbor for Seiji-kun is on the left side, right?」
『Nnn? So what?』
「And I drew that one and only left neighbor seat in the lottery?」
『So?』
「So? It’s not just so! I’ve been saying it since this morning! I feel it’s destiny! I’m so full of happiness that happiness is overflowing from my entire body, and I can’t help but smile naturally!」
『No, rather than a smile, it’s more like a creepy grin when you’re plotting something evil, it’s gross, though?』
「G-Gross!? Y-You’re just saying that to hide your embarrassment, right? Seiji-kun, you’re also feeling it’s destiny and your heart is full of happiness, right?」
『Nah, not really.』
「That’s enough….」
Saying that, Suzumiya became depressed, and I thought I might have done something bad, but she started grinning again within a minute, so I decided to just leave her be.
As I thought, Suzumiya is a weird girl.
