Chapter 10: Blushing

When I arrived at school in the morning, Genta was chatting and laughing with his friends near the classroom entrance. When he noticed us, he flinched and turned his face away for a moment. He’s probably trying to avoid looking at Ryuugasaki-san.

It seems like the guidance counselor incident has become the subject of wild rumors and last night, I even got a message from Genta saying,

『I heard Ryuugasaki-san tried to tamper with her test scores and beat up the teacher, so she got taken to the guidance counselor’s office. You really shouldn’t get involved with her.』

Seriously, how does a rumor like that even start? I’m going to play a little prank on Genta for believing such a baseless rumor. Though, he might actually be happy about it.

「Morning, Oshima.」

「It’s Kojima! Ah, no, I’m not Kojima either!」

「Then, then?」

「That’s not the point… Don’t do that! I’m not Kojima either!」

「Alright, alright, but I think eating unaju all year round is a bit much, don’t you?」

「That’s not right either! My name is Genta, but I’m Nakajima!」

「You’re energetic this morning~」

「Thanks to you!」

His retorts are sharp today as well. I glanced at Ryuugasaki-san and saw her facing away, her shoulders shaking. Huh? Is she laughing? Oh man, I want to see that face.

She had a cool impression in the game too, but it would be nice if she showed more of those rich expressions.

But to think her eyesight is so bad that she can’t even tell people apart unless she stares at them… I wonder if she was glaring at everyone in class because she was envious of them chatting with their friends?

「Genta, let’s eat lunch together today.」

「N-No… I have club activities at lunchtime today…」

Yeah, that’s a lie. His eyes are darting around like crazy. Is he aiming for the World Aquatics Championships or something?

Ever since he ran away in the cafeteria the other day, he’s been making excuses whenever I invite him to lunch. Even explaining that she wasn’t glaring at him, but just trying to recognize his face, didn’t work.

Thanks to that, Ryuugasaki-san and I have ended up with our own little space in the cafeteria.

Well, it’s not like I’m unhappy about that, but I feel bad for making everyone around us uncomfortable, and I want Ryuugasaki-san to get along with everyone.

Glasses are definitely a must. I hope everyone’s reaction will change once next week comes around. Fufu, I’m looking forward to seeing Ryuugasaki-san in glasses.

「Ryuugasaki-san, what’s your favorite color?」

「…Red?」

「Red, huh. Should we get red glasses too?」

「What color does Shiijiki-kun like?」

Nn? Why is she asking me? I think she should choose her favorite color… Ah, maybe she doesn’t know what would look good on her?

Hmm… I think red would suit her since she has reddish-brown hair, but if someone were to say something like, “It looks like blood splatter…” it might make Ryuugasaki-san sad.

A cute pink? Or maybe a bold blue? No, black would be good too for a more serious look.

「…Ryuugasaki-san is cute, anything would look good on you, so it’s hard to decide.」

「C-Cute!?」

「Eh? …Did I just say that out loud?」

When I asked Ryuugasaki-san, who had lowered her head with a flushed face, she nodded slightly. It was an accident, but I guess it was fine since I got to see something good.

「It’s not fair to say something like that out of the blue.」

「Well, it’s true though.」

Right now, she’s probably genuinely trying to glare at me, but her face is red, so it’s not scary at all, and if I’m not careful, I’ll end up grinning at her.

Maybe because she’s not used to being complimented, she reacts so cutely, it’s such a waste that people are scared of her.

I want to see more of these reactions, so I want to compliment her more actively, but unfortunately, I don’t have the courage. Even if I could say it, I’m sure I’d be the one blushing instead.

My little sister has always told me that compliments are important, but it’s really hard to actually say them. I guess I’ll try challenging myself little by little, starting with simple things.

「Besides the color, there are also different shapes.Like the size of the lenses and whether there’s a frame or not.」

「It’s difficult. I’ll leave it to Shiijiki-kun to decide.」

Decide what? I don’t have that kind of ability. Whether they suit her or not is just my personal opinion, and honestly, I can’t say I have good taste.

Looking around the classroom, there are a few people wearing glasses, but of course, they’re not all the same. That silver frame is cool too.

My eyesight isn’t bad, but maybe I should try wearing glasses too… No, if I start wearing fake glasses, people might pick on me, saying things like, “What’s this introvert trying to act cool for?”

Wait a minute? If I think of it as matching with Ryuugasaki-san… No, no, that would just creep her out.
